Topic 1: Assessment – Regrowing Success in a Diverse Classroom

Description: Elementary and secondary staff will revisit the Growing Success (2010) ministry assessment policy and the addendums through the lens of supporting the diversity of learners in every classroom.  Teachers will consider culturally relevant and responsive assessment practices that are differentiated and that enable each student to convey their learning in a way that works best for them.  Teachers will explore differentiation of assessments, triangulation, feedback, and consider how learning goals and success criteria provide clarity and support student ownership of the learning.

Topic 2: Curriculum Fidelity

Description: Elementary staff will work in school groupings to continue to develop their understanding of the language and mathematics curriculums.  Referencing the new language curriculum, teachers will consider how to support struggling readers and writers in all divisions, and how to use assessment to inform next steps.  In mathematics, teachers will explore how number routines, and the use of mathematical models facilitate student achievement of the curriculum expectations for their grade.

Secondary teachers will meet in subject specific groups to consider how assessment might be differentiated specific to their curriculum area, and will explore assessment strategies for observations and conversations in the secondary classroom.

Topic 3: Health and Safety – Violence Prevention

Description: Administrators will facilitate a session on Workplace Violence Prevention.

Topic 4: Cybersecurity and Online Privacy Awareness

Description: In a quickly changing technological landscape, staff will continue to develop awareness of cybersecurity and online privacy, and will learn strategies to help prevent breaches of security and privacy.
