Families and Caregivers can register students to begin the French Immersion program in Year 1/Junior Kindergarten.
Bluewater District School Board's elementary school French Immersion program begins in Junior Kindergarten, allowing students to benefit from their early language learning abilities. French is the primary language of instruction in early grades, and English instruction increases in Grade 3. French Immersion students receive a minimum of 3,800 hours of instruction in French by the end of Grade 8. French Immersion programs include the study of French as a second language, and the study of at least two other subjects taught in French.
In the French Immersion secondary school program, students accumulate ten credits in French: four are for FSL courses; six are for other subjects in which French is the language of instruction. Schools may grant a certificate in French Immersion if the student fulfils these requirements.
